Subject:	St. Mark's Parish Mission 2005
Attachments:	Mission 2005 Fr Kenan.pdf

I am sending you this email regarding the St Mark Parish Mission for
several reasons.

First, is to invite you, on behalf of the Mission team and myself
personally (as personal as email can be) to come to the four day Parish
Mission (Mon. Jan 31 to Thur. Feb 3). I can assure you that the four days
you will invest will be well worth the time. The Mission will be a very
enriching, rewarding and life changing experience. Please, do try to come
each day for the four days, but if you can only make a couple, let it be
the first and the last days.

Second, I am writing to you because you, individually and collectively,
whether you realize it or not, are the influential people in the parish and
town. What you say, do and communicate to others does make all the
difference in the world. Also you can once again support and help build
St. Mark's.

Of course, I have a request, too.
The request is that you forward this email, with the Mission information
and INVITE the members of the committees you chair, the groups that you
work with, the people you know. And your families, especially your
families. The Mission is at St. Mark's, but for all who journey.

Thirdly, about the Mission retreat. I know that I have been personally
graced to have been able to attend weekend and 5 day retreats for over 40
years ( I will again be on my weekend Retreat at the Passionist Retreat
House in NY this March..if any of the men would like information and join
me that would be great. Ladies, if interested, I'll bring back information
and schedules). I can personally attest to the power of a Retreat. I also
know that not everyone has or can, get away for a Retreat. Which is why
the Passionists' offer Parish Mission Retreats. If the people can not get
to the Retreat House , then bring the Retreat to the people. It is not
exactly the same as going on a weekend retreat, but is the closest thing to
being there.

My Retreats have made all the different in the world to me. Through them I
have been able to learn, pray, be silent, seek out what the Lord is calling
me to do. Quite frankly, the Retreat House, for me, feels like home. It
is like the Kingdom on earth. That is why I know that the experience will
be fruitful.... because the Holy Spirit will be present.

So, who needs this?
If you wonder or have wondered 'what's it all about', or have asked 'Why
me, Lord?', or lead a stressful, busy life, or want to listen to Fr Kenan
( I have had the opportunity to hear him and you will enjoy his
conferences), or are married, single, young or old, have a life full of
changes, aches and pains, joys and sorrows, things to be thankful for, lots
of bills to pay, deal with people at home, work, play or on vacation, or
need time to spend with God, this Mission Retreat is for you.

A long time ago, my first Retreat Director asked me to invite people to
come on Retreat. I balked at the suggestion (I was 16). He told me not to
worry and especially to not be disappointed. I only needed to ask and
invite, he said, and that it would be the Holy Spirit who will decide who
comes.

So again, I invite you and your families and all our fellow parishioners
and journeyers to come to the Mission Retreat. I am requesting that you
contact your groups, committee members, families, friends, etc. and
extend the invitation. You can of course use this email, use the
attachment or write your own.

If you have any questions, please, either email me or call; CL 205 541
5625.

Thank you, God bless you in all you do, especially for St. Mark's and I
look forward to seeing you there,

Phil

Information about the Mission, Fr Kenan and the Passionists:

St. Mark's to Host First-Ever Mission, Jan. 31-Feb. 3

More and more people are expressing a desire for spirituality. Perhaps we
have tried other paths, and are still empty. That emptiness is spiritual
hunger - a real hungering for an authentic experience of God, a realizable,
touchable experience. People today feel a need to deepen their faith,
their relationship with the Lord and with one another.

St. Mark the Evangelist parish is offering the chance to do just that, with
a special mission to be led by a Passionist priest, Fr. Kenan Peters. The
origin of the word mission is Latin; it means "to send." While many
associate the word with foreign missions (where persons are sent to preach
and teach), here the word is used interchangeably with retreat.
Passionists are sent to a local parish (rather than have people travel to a
retreat center) for about a week. It is a fun and inspiring time for all, a
week of preaching and counseling and spiritual direction, a time of sharing
stories and song and prayer, a time of faith revival, simply listening to
God and God's love for us.

The mission begins on Monday, January 31, and continues through Thursday,
February 3. Mass will be offered every morning at 7:45, immediately
followed by the Mission Conference (coffee and pastries served). In
addition, a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration will be held from 4:00 to
5:00 p.m. daily. Evening Mass starts at 6:30, again followed by the
Mission Conference. The opportunity to go to confession will be available
as part of all events.

While plenty of activity fills each day, the evening service is the heart
of the mission. Something happens to individuals and faith communities when
we pack into church each night and are bonded by the preaching of God's
Good News and song. The sermons are focused on practical, down-to-earth
topics as we ponder how the Scriptures nourish and heal us in the everyday
struggles and joys of our lives.

All are invited?young and old, married and divorced, single and widowed;
the appeal is to all who have stayed or strayed over the years. NOW IS THE
TIME TO COME HOME TO THE LORD.

The Passionists were founded by Paul Francis Daneo ("Paul of the Cross"),
born on January 3, 1694, in Ovada, Italy. During his teen years he felt
inwardly inspired and captivated by the Cross of Christ. Paul discerned
God's love for all people in the passion and death of Jesus Christ.
Realizing all that Jesus had suffered in love for us, Paul wanted to love
Jesus in return through prayer and preaching. He gathered companions who
shared his dream, his special charism or gift, to keep the Passion of Jesus
Christ always on his mind, on his lips, and in his heart. Over the years,
men and women have worked hard and given much of themselves to keep Paul's
vision alive, to carry on the work of preaching Christ Crucified to a
suffering world. The men who followed Paul would become known as
Passionists because of their dedication to and preaching of the passion and
death of Jesus Christ.

Fr. Kenan Peters is a native of Richmond Hill, N.Y. He was ordained to the
Passionist priesthood in 1960. He spent seven years in parish work, three
years in Retreat House ministry and for the past 27 years has been on the
Mission Band, giving parish missions and retreats all over the eastern
United States.
